A Brief History of Port de Grave Pentecostal Church

The Pentecostal message was introduced to Port de grave when believers in Clarke's Beach began praying for our community. In the summer of 1924, Isreal Marshall, along with Albert Dawe held open air meetings near the fisherman's wharf. In the spring of 1925 evangelistic meetings were held in the local Orange Lodge with Pastor Robert English. The first converts were Henry Petten, Jake Kennedy, Lucy Andrews, Aubrey and Elsie Ralph, Vine Kennedy and Willis and Caroline Lear. Pastor Flora Bowering served as the first Pastor. In the fallof 1925, George Andrews donated land for the new Church which was opened on April 4, 1926 under the ministry of Pastor Elsie Pike. The first water baptismal service was conducted during the summmer of 1926 in Hibb's Cove with Pastor English bapizing the candidates. The first parsonage was built in 1940 under Pastor Raymond Pelley's ministry. A school was opened in 1955 and a new church built in 1963 under the minstry of Pastor Pastors Wallace and Jessie Belbin. A new Parsonage was purchased in 1965 under Pastor Wilfred and O.Mary Balls ministry. In 1979 under Pastor William Burtons ministry a TV program "The Joyful Sound" was seen province wide on NTV. Under the ministry of Pastor J.R.Winsor a new school was opened in 1985 on the Harbour Hills with the new church being added in 1987
